A shocking video has been shared online showing a 15-year-old allegedly throwing a cat from a moving car window.

A teenage girl who was filmed allegedly throwing a cat off a bridge from a moving car has been charged with animal cruelty.

The video obtained by Seven News shows the teen allegedly throwing the cat from the front passenger window at an overpass on the Pacific Motorway south of Brisbane about 3am on Saturday.

The cat is seen in the video, which was uploaded to social media, going over the guardrail and disappearing.

Only moments earlier, the short clip showed the teen sitting with the cat in her lap.

Following the video being uploaded, police tracked down the 15-year-old girl to a Gold Coast home on June 19.

The teen has been charged with animal cruelty and endangering the safe use of a vehicle by throwing an object.

She is due to appear in the Southport Childrens Court at a later date.
