A driver has been charged after a child was thrown into a tree and a woman struck in a horror crash.
A driver has been charged after a child was thrown into a tree and a woman struck in a horror collision in Sydney’s southwest.
Emergency services were called to Old Glenfield Rd at Glenfield about 5pm on Tuesday after reports of a single-vehicle crash.
Upon arrival, police found a sedan they allege had left the road and struck a 72-year-old woman and child waiting to cross.
The four-year-old girl was thrown into a tree as a result of the impact, with the elderly woman was left with critical injuries.
She was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being rushed to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition.
The girl was taken to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead in a stable condition.
The 18-year-old male driver of the sedan was also taken to Liverpool Hospital.
Following an investigation, police arrested the teenager on Saturday at Glenfield.
He was taken to Campbelltown police station where he was charged with a string of serious driving-related offences.
The charges include dangerous driving occasioning actual bodily harm, negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm – causing bodily harm by misconduct, not stop at stop line at a red light, and not complying with P1 license – no P1 plates.
He was granted strict conditional bail to appear before Campbelltown Local Court on December 17.
