Perth man receives healthy dose of instant karma

Police have seized tens-of-thousands of dollars found fluttering around a freeway in Perth’s northern suburbs, believed to have come from a failed drug deal.

Members of the public reported seeing bundles of $50 notes along the Mitchell Fwy through Connolly about 9.30pm Monday.

Body camera vision released by WA Police shows officers scrambling to pick up wads of bills on the road and in roadside shrubs, picking up around $40,000 in total.

Police Commissioner Col Blanch on Tuesday told radio station 6PR he believes the cash stemmed from a “suspicious meeting,” shortly before the money was spotted.

“It looks like it was a total fiasco by the person involved and probably not one of our smartest (alleged) offenders,” Mr Blanch said.

The driver of a Holden Commodore, allegedly parked by the side of the road near the scene, was arrested.

A search of the Holden allegedly turned up a further $8000 cash and 51g of cocaine.

The 34-year-old Clarkson man appeared in Joondalup Magistrates Court on Tuesday, charged with possession of a prohibited drug with intent to sell or supply, possession of stolen property, and having no authority to drive.

Investigations continue as detectives try to track down a tow truck and motorcycle seen in the area at the time — both of which left as officers arrived.

Anyone with information, dashcam, or mobile phone footage of the area between 8.30pm and 10pm is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
