A driver who allegedly blew three times the legal limit after hitting a police car has had his licence suspended immediately.

ACT Police allege a man driving a silver station wagon collided with an unmarked police car on Saturday night, at the intersection of Hindmarsh Drive and Palmer Street in the Canberra suburb of Garran.

At about 9.10pm, the driver allegedly pulled out in front of the cop car contrary to traffic signals, causing to the police vehicle to roll for approximately 20 metres before coming to a stop east of the intersection.

Both police officers received treatment for minor injuries with one needing to be extracted from the vehicle by ACT Fire and Rescue.

The driver of the station wagon was uninjured and when tested for a blood alcohol reading, allegedly blew a level of 0.163.

ACT police are investigating the incident.

“ACT Policing reminds all drivers that drink driving puts both yourself and other drivers at significant risk,” ACT Police said. “The decision is simple – drink or drive.”
