A woman has died in a fiery crash after a Ferrari was allegedly stolen
A Ferrari was allegedly stolen from outside a cafe in broad daylight but the joy ride came to a fiery and fatal end.
A woman has died and a man was rushed to hospital in Perth after an alleged stolen Ferrari crashed and burst into flames on Saturday.
The sports car was believed to have been taken from outside a cafe in West Perth at about 10.20am.
The car was left running by its owner when the two pounced.
They jumped in the car and drove off.
Officers spotted the Ferrari but when they approached, the alleged thieves sped off and crashed 100 metres down the road.
It’s believed the male driver slammed his foot on the accelerator at the intersection on Vincent Street where he lost control before the sports car burst into flames.
A witness told Channel 9 reporters the flames were as high as nearby houses.
“Definitely the scariest thing I’ve ever seen,” the witness said.
The 38-year-old male driver was rushed to the Fiona Stanley Hospital under police guard but the 40-year-old female passenger died at the scene.
She has not yet been formally identified, but her family were advised of the incident yesterday afternoon.
The man has been charged with manslaughter as well as charges related to stealing the car.
He was refused bail and is due to appear in the Perth Magistrates Court today.
