Long queues are forming for Covid-19 testing in Sydney’s eastern suburbs after two new cases were detected in the area this week.

Dozens of residents have come forward for testing at the Bondi Beach drive-through testing clinic after a man and a household contact tested positive to the virus.

The new cases come after 40 days of no locally-acquired cases in Sydney, putting the city on high alert.

NSW Health confirmed yesterday that a man in his 60s, who had not travelled overseas but worked as a driver for international flight crews, had contracted the virus.

The man took a saliva test on Tuesday, with a positive result confirmed the following day in a PCR test.

On Wednesday night, authorities revealed a second case had been detected in a household contact of the man.

The new cases have left contract tracers scrambling to find out exactly how the man contracted the virus.

The cases visited a number of sites while potentially infectious, with NSW Health issuing alerts for venues in Bondi Junction, Vaucluse, Zetland and North Ryde.
