Woman heading to trial over partner’s alleged stabbing death

A woman accused of fatally severing an artery in her partner’s leg with a knife during a fight will go to trial later this year.

A woman, who allegedly fatally stabbed her partner during a fight in their West Perth home will go to trial in Western Australia’s Supreme Court.

Police allege Claudia Maria Federico, 35, severed an artery when she struck Joseph Michael Nicoli in the thigh with a knife during a confrontation in the stairwell of the Carr St property on March 4.

Mr Nicoli, 35, died of his injury in hospital five days later, with a charge against Ms Federico upgraded to manslaughter.

After being granted bail at her last court appearance, Ms Federico appeared in person before Perth’s Stirling Gardens Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

She entered a plea of not guilty and was released on bail on the same terms and conditions. She is due to make a first appearance before the Supreme Court on October 2.

The court has also been told an argument erupted over the mother of two not allowing Mr Nicoli to hold the couple’s three-week-old baby.

As part of her bail conditions, Ms Federico must stay in the West Perth home where the alleged attack occurred.
