Woman accused of causing fatal car crash heckled outside court
Supporters of the alleged victim, killed in a car crash, yelled at the accused as she entered a Perth court.
A woman, accused of causing a fatal car crash while high on a cocktail of drugs has been jeered and yelled at as she entered a Perth court.
Evie Butterworth, 29, was allegedly under the influence of cocaine, cannabis, and methamphetamine when her Nissan Maxima collided with Abbey Sheriff’s Nissan X-Trail on a Kwinana Freeway on-ramp through the southern Perth suburb of Baldivis on January 11.
The crash caused Ms Sheriff’s vehicle to roll several times, causing her horrific injuries, and she died at the scene.
Ms Butterworth was heckled as she entered Stirling Gardens Magistrates Court on Wednesday, with dozens of supporters of Ms Sheriff wearing T-shirts featuring a picture of the woman along with the slogan “JUSTICE FOR ABBEY”.
On the back, just at the neckline, the shirts read “FOREVER 21” – the age Ms Sheriff was when she was killed.
Ms Butterworth – flanked by family and wearing a black skirt, dark blouse, a black face mask and dark sunglasses – hurried into the court building as the crowd chanted “What do we want? Justice for Abbey! When do we want it? Now!”
Ms Butterworth has been charged with driving under the influence of drugs and manslaughter.
