Rape charges against bikie Troy Mercanti dropped
Rape charges against one of the most notorious bikies in WA have been dropped after a huge development with the complainant.
A notorious bikie accused of rape has sensationally had the charges dropped just days after the allegation was made.
Senior Mongols member Troy Mercanti was seen handcuffed and shirtless at a home on Brodrick St in Karrinyup, in Perth’s north, last Thursday afternoon following claims he sexually assaulted a woman.
Detectives from the Sex Assault Squad charged the 56-year-old with two counts of sexual penetration without consent and aggravated sexual penetration.
He made his first appearance in Perth Magistrates Court last Friday in relation to the charges, then successfully applied for bail the following Monday.
But on Thursday, WA Police confirmed the charges had been “discontinued after consultation with the complainant, who has decided not to pursue the matter further”.
“WA Police respects the decision of the complainant and will reassess this matter should the complainant choose to pursue the complaint in the future,” the statement read.
Mr Mercanti also has a separate matter before the courts where he is facing a charge of fighting in public causing fear, which is expected to be heard on June 14.
He has not entered a plea to those charges.
