Accused pervert landlord James “Tiger” Maxwell will plead guilty to spying on his tenants via secret cameras, but prosecutors intend to lay further charges against him.
The 49-year-old, who allegedly could spy on tenants using his Pyrmont bathrooms while he was jetsetting around the world, appeared briefly in a Sydney court on Wednesday.
Lawyer John Pappas told Downing Centre Local Court Mr Maxwell intended to plead guilty to 11 charges of intentionally record intimate images without consent.
But prosecutors told Registrar Nicole Hoffman that further charges would be laid against Mr Maxwell after a six-week adjournment until late January next year.
James Maxwell, who goes by the name “Tiger Max” on social media, has entered no formal pleas to charges made after a tenant discovered hidden cameras in his Pyrmont flat.
The Barbados-born apartment manager allegedly installed tiny secret spy cameras in the male bathrooms and a bedroom of two neighbouring units.
When police uncovered the cameras they also allegedly found an app on Mr Maxwell’s phone which enables accessing video footage from anywhere in the world.
A former friend of the accused claimed Mr Maxwell, who posts photos of his frequent world trips on social media, had an app on his phone to access the cameras remotely.
Anton told news.com.au when detectives came to investigate the discovery of spy cameras in the apartments they also found the app.
Anton also claimed that Mr Maxwell had tiny cameras in his watch and key ring.
Police will allege Mr Maxwell, an apartment manager who has lived in Australia for a decade, had more than 50 videos depicting images of occupants of the two units in his possession.
News.com.au understands the cameras included a black rectangular digital clock and wall clocks in a bedroom and two bathrooms.
