The immigration detainee allegedly involved in the violent home invasion of an elderly Perth couple continues to front court to face charges over incidents that occurred following his release from detention.

Majid Jamshidi Doukoshkan was one of the detainees released from Yongah Hill Detention Centre near Perth last November after a High Court ruling found it was illegal for detainees who could not be deported to be detained indefinitely.

Since his release, Jamshidi Doukoshkan has fronted court over breaching curfew conditions and drug offences and for the alleged home invasion of Ninette, 73, and Philip, 76, Simons in their Girrawheen home.

He has been in custody over the alleged violent attack since his arrest on April 28 and appeared in the Armadale Magistrates Court on Monday via video link from prison to face a separate drug charge.

On April 4, he was caught by police driving with meth in his system, 12 days before he allegedly robbed and bashed the Simons.

He pleaded guilty to the charge of driving with an illicit substance in his oral fluid and was fined $600.

The latest court appearance follows a string of offences Jamshidi Doukoshkan is alleged to have committed in the months after his release.

In February, Jamshidi Doukoshkan’s faced court over alleged curfew breaches, but bail was not opposed by the Commonwealth and later dropped due to a blunder that resulted in the Commonwealth reissuing visas for the NZYQ-affected cohort.

On March 22, a court order that required Jamshidi Doukoshkan to remain at a fixed address was discontinued after it had been in place for about one month.

Jamshidi Doukoshkan was again bailed in the days before the alleged attack on the Simons after being charged with a drug-related offence.

The alleged attack on Mr and Mrs Simons happened in the Perth suburb of Girrawheen about 7pm on April 16.

It resulted in Mrs Simons requiring hospitalisation because her injuries were so severe.

She was at home with her husband when police alleged three people knocked on the door pretending to be police officers.

Mr Simons opened the door, then was immediately pushed to the ground and had his hands bound behind his back.

Mrs Simons was held to the ground and punched in the face several times, causing her to lose consciousness, police said.

The group were accused of stealing more than $200,000 worth of jewellery and other items from the couple.

Joel Painter, Emmy Signo and Seyed Younes Tahimi were also arrested over the incident and are due to face the Perth Magistrates Court on July 22.

Jamshidi Doukoshkan remains in the Albany Regional Prison and is also due to face the Perth Magistrates Court on July 22 for his alleged involvement in the attack.
