Comanchero boss Tarek Zahed’s murder charge moved to Sydney Supreme Court
A bikie boss and his younger brother are accused of murdering an underworld figure before dumping him outside a Sydney hospital.
A bikie kingpin and his younger brother who allegedly murdered an underworld figure before dumping his body outside a southwest Sydney hospital will remain behind bars on remand.
Tarek Zahed appeared before Burwood Local Court on Monday charged with murder and kidnapping in company with intent to commit a serious indictable offence following his arrest late last year.
Police allege the Comanchero heavyweight is responsible for the 2014 gangland murder of underworld figure Youssef Assoum, 29, who was found bleeding out in Bankstown.
Assoum was discovered by an off-duty doctor outside Liverpool Hospital at night suffering stab wounds to his head and a gunshot wound to his thigh. Assoum died while in hospital.
After more than eight years, police officers investigating Assoum’s death made a series of arrests late last year, including Zahed, his brother, and a third man police allege was an accessory to the murder.
The former outlaw motorcycle gang sergeant-at-arms was arrested at gunpoint by specialist police in Edgeclif in Sydney’s eastern suburbs in August, only months after surviving a failed assassination attempt outside an Auburn gym.
The court was told on Monday that Zahed would remain behind bars on remand following failed applications to be granted bail, as his matter would be moved to the Sydney Supreme Court later this year.
Abdul Kadir Zahed, Zahed’s younger brother, was arrested by officers attached to Taskforce Erebus only weeks after his elder sibling and was similarly charged with murder and kidnapping in company.
His matters will also be heard at Sydney Supreme Court.
A third man, Triantafilos Vlangos, 44, also appeared before Burwood court on Monday charged with being an accessory after the fact to murder.
Police allege Vlangos attempted to destroy Assoum’s car by setting it on fire at Lansdowne.

Magistrate Andrew Miller dismissed an attempt by Vlangos’ lawyers to relax his bail conditions.
Currently, Vlangos is required to report to police daily and is subject to a strict curfew.
All three men will reappear before the same court next month.
