Hunter Valley bus crash: Driver expected to face fresh manslaughter charges

The driver behind the wheel of a horror bus crash that killed 10 guests on their way home from a Hunter Valley wedding is expected to face fresh charges.

Brett Button, 59, allegedly lost control of the bus carrying 35 people home from the wedding of local couple Mitchell Gaffney and Madeleine Edsell on June 11 last year.

He is currently on bail and is facing 63 charges over the alleged incident.

Now he is expected to face an additional 26 charges, including 10 counts of manslaughter, when he returns to court on Wednesday, the NCA NewsWire understands.

A court was told in August that it was clear Mr Button was “suffering” amid concerns about his mental health and wellbeing in custody.

Mr Button has yet to enter pleas for the existing charges.

He is accused of causing grievous bodily harm to nine people by driving dangerously while behind the wheel.

The identities of the persons injured in the crash – 10 seriously – were suppressed by the court in June.

Local husband and wife Andrew and Lynan Scott, Zachary Bray, Angus Craig, Darcy Bulman, Tori Cowburn, Rebecca Mullen, Kane Symons, and mother-and daughter Naden and Kyah McBride were all killed in the crash.
