TWO open speed limit sections of the Stuart Highway in the Northern Territory will be made permanent and connected by another 60km stretch.

OPEN speed limits are in the Northern Territory to stay, as the government plans to extend the current stretch on the Stuart Highway by 60 kilometres.

THE extension will link two trial sites to create a 336km-long continuous stretch of highway between Alice Springs and Ali Curung in central Australia.
