Nurse who made vile posts about women in a Facebook ‘pick-up artist’ group slammed by tribunal

A nurse made vile posts about women in an online group for so called pick-up artists, boasting how he manipulated them for sex.

The psychology of organisational abuse

A nurse’s vile posts about his purported sexual encounters with women in a Facebook group for so-called pick up artists have been branded disgraceful by a tribunal.

Lode Emmanuel Palle joined a closed online group in 2017 and 2018, posting in “appalling detail” how he claimed to have met women and manipulated them into having sex.

He posted photos of naked and scantily clad women that appeared to be taken without their consent, and bragged about how he adored disrespecting women, the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal was told.

In some posts, he described depraved tactics, including deliberately plying women with alcohol to overcome their “last minute resistance” to sex.

VCAT this week released its reasons for reprimanding and suspending Mr Palle, and finding him guilty of professional misconduct.

The tribunal found his posts promoted manipulative, coercive and misogynistic behaviour.

“They were not trivial or harmless or the product of immature or poor judgment – they were simply disgraceful,” senior member Anna Dea and members Mary Archibald and Mary Hally said in their ruling.

Those in the closed Facebook group shared manipulative tactics on how to pressure women into sex and documented their “successes”.

In one graphic post, Mr Palle boasted of purportedly persuading a woman to attend his apartment by “bamboozling her mind”.

When she told him they would not be having sex, he claimed to have ignored her as she “already crossed the point of no return”.

In another, Mr Palle, who was at the time working as a manager of an aged care facility, lied to woman he was a cancer nurse.

He described taking away women’s phones, cancelling their Uber and taking objects from their bag so they were forced to return to his house — moves the tribunal deemed coercive control and likely instil fear in women.

His vile descriptions included boasts of how he picked up another woman “and smashed her for five rounds”.

“I was thinking to myself ‘I like this girl actually. Would be a good addition to the rotation’,” he added.

The tribunal labelled the content “inappropriate, offensive, sexually offensive and vilifying of women”.

The posts promoted the manipulation of women for men’s gratification, the members said.

“We found the posts dehumanised women and treated them as objects rather than human beings entitled to be treated with equality and dignity,” they said.

“The suggestion that a woman should be added to the ‘rotation’ was particularly objectionable.”

Posts that included photographs of women were also particularly disgraceful and exploitative, they said.

Mr Palle admitted the conduct and was appalled and ashamed by his actions, the tribunal heard.

He claimed he made the exaggerated posts to chase validation from other men and had undergone counselling.

The tribunal said the posts were entirely inconsistent with the values of the nursing profession.

“For a nurse to have become involved in the group and publish material describing purported sexual activity, share images of those women and post inappropriate, offensive, sexually offensive and vilifying content on social media is disgraceful and risks the reputation of the profession,” the members said.

Mr Palle was earlier suspended for a total of 20 months, ending January 21.
