The country’s employment minister has not been able to arrive at his Gold Coast home after the Queensland government slammed its borders shut.

Stuart Robert is among thousands of Queenslanders who have been barred from entering the state until noon September 8.

“How many other thousands of Queenslanders have? How many other small-to-medium enterprise business owners? How many Australians working or Queenslanders working outside their state received that? And suddenly, they’re going: what? I’m stateless,” he told Sky News”

“I’m locked out of my state until 8 September. I haven’t told my wife yet, by the way. Yeah, it’s extraordinary.”

Queensland premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announced the changes on Tuesday. She had repeatedly opened and closed her state’s borders throughout 2020, while intermittently pleading for support from other states and the federal government for tourism support.

There are about 5,300 people in hotel quarantine in Queensland.
