Live breaking news: Concern over mystery cases as Victoria records 21 new infections
Authorities have pointed to a concerning detail in Victoria's new Covid-19 cases. Follow our live coverage.
Welcome to our live coverage of the Covid situation in Victoria.
Victoria has recorded 21 new cases today, four of which are of unknown origin and around three quarters of them were in isolation.
The new mystery cases are of particular concern. One is a man from the inner north which has stumped authorities so far, and three other mystery cases were detected across two unconnected households in Glenroy in Melbourne’s north.
Testing commander Jeroen Weimar said authorities are most concerned about new cases in Glenroy which don’t have “acquisition sources”.
“Normally, at this stage of an outbreak, you would want all of the people and your wider group to be known. The fact that this hasn’t all popped up on the radar is concerning,” he said. “The other pieces, we can see how they fit together. These two don’t.”
He said contact tracers are yet to establish a link between the two Glenroy households, and there is no obvious connections.
Of the new cases, 15 have been in quarantine throughout their infectious periods.
The overall number of cases is a very slight increase from yesterday, but it also shows the percentage of cases in isolation is improving slightly. Yesterday there were 20 new cases and 70 per cent of them were in isolation.
