A furious parent alleges every Aboriginal person was kicked out of a NSW pool because a couple of boys would not listen to staff.

Tense scene as Indigenous kids 'kicked out' of pool

Video has emerged of an incident at a NSW pool where allegedly every Aboriginal person was kicked out of an aquatic centre because “there were a couple of boys not listening.”

Furious parent Thomas Davis shared the video to social media after he dropped off money to his son who was at the Inverell Aquatic Centre, in northern NSW on Sunday.

He spotted a police vehicle out the front of the centre and saw officers talking to some parents and decided to see “what was going on.”

“Look at this, guys gone and kicked out all the black kids out of the pool here,” Mr Davis said in the video.

“Inverell pool at its finest, it just opened up and every black kid’s got to get out of the pool now.

“Look at them all, they got them all lined up out here and they all got to f. king leave.

“Wow, look at that, all the white kids are allowed in the pool.”

The video shows several children standing outside the pool with their towels and belongings and police officers standing at the end of the pool.

A NSW Police spokesman said New England Police District officers were called to the centre on Evans Street about 4pm following reports staff were having difficulties removing patrons who refused to leave.

A spokesman said a manger identified about 20 adults and children who were being unsafe, would not follow instructions and were rude to staff.

“They had been asked to leave, however, were refusing,” a spokesman said.

“Police spoke to the group who continued to be hostile, yelled and filmed officers.”

The group were issued a move on direction which they complied with and were escorted from the facility.

While police do not anticipate any further action, the aquatic centre posted to social media that they would co-operate with their investigation.

“The safety of our guests and team members is our highest priority,” the post stated.

“We are committed to maintaining a safe and secure environment for all our guests and team members and we will provide further updates as soon as we are able.”

The centre is managed by Belgravia Management, which issued a statement saying police were called because of group of youths refused to stop anti-social behaviour.

A spokesman for the contractor said when police arrived they identified two adults who were also “displaying anti-social behaviour” and were escorted from the facility.

“We want to be clear that at no stage were any patrons asked to leave unless they were directly involved in anti-social behaviour,” a Belgravia Leisure spokesman said.

“We are concerned about the inaccuracies in a live video posted on social media, which falsely suggests otherwise.”

The spokesman said they had a zero-tolerance policy for anti-social, discriminatory or abusive behaviour and would not tolerate behaviour that compromised the safety and wellbeing of their staff or guests.

“Our commitment to inclusivity is demonstrated through our support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities nationwide via various initiatives, programs and services,” the spokesman said.

“We remain dedicated to ensuring a safe and inclusive environment for all.”

Inverell Shire Mayor Kate Dight said the council was aware centre managers had asked several patrons to leave because “their actions were threatening the safety and wellbeing of other users.”

She said the council supported management’s actions to ensure the safety of patrons and staff at the pool.
