Dramatic thunderstorms have hit NSW this afternoon, causing trees to come down and train services to be suspended.

Severe thunderstorms have hit parts of NSW and there are warnings more are on the way.

There have been reports of fallen trees around Penrith and the Blue Mountains area.

Gusts over 90km/h and small hail was observed at Maitland and 31mm of rain fell in 30min at Cassilis in the Central West.

In other headlines today, police shared footage of a "dangerous" find on a Queensland highway.

A Queensland Police officer had pulled a ute over for allegedly speeding when he discovered a girl tucked behind the seats of the single cab vehicle.

"What the hell is ..?" the officer is heard saying to the two occupants when he realised the seven-year-old is hidden behind them.

Earlier in today's major international news, Prince Harry revealed how he was "cut off" financially from the royal family, saying he only managed to survive because Diana "saw it coming" and made plans for his future.

He said if it wasn't for the money his mother Princess Diana had left him then he wouldn't have been able to afford security for himself, Meghan and Archie.

Severe thunderstorms in Sydney

Severe storms have lashed Sydney this afternoon and there might be more on the way.

While the Bureau of Meteorology says its severe thunderstorm warning has temporarily eased, it warns "redevelopment remains likely".

There is also a wider warning for people in the Hunter, Metropolitan, North West Slopes and Plains and parts of Mid North Coast, Illawarra, Central Tablelands and Northern Tablelands Forecast Districts for damaging winds and heavy rainfall.

Train services have been suspended on the Blue Mountains line after a tree got caught in overhead wiring.

Meanwhile, southeast Queensland is in for more wet weather this week, with up to 40mm expected in some parts as humid conditions return to the region.

Woman’s body found in ‘shallow grave’

The body of a 21-year-old woman has been found buried in a shallow grave in South Australia’s Flinders Ranges region.

The woman was last seen at Southern Cross Homes on Marion Road at Plympton North about 10pm on Friday night.

She was reported missing on Saturday before major crime detectives interviewed her 20-year-old boyfriend on Sunday.

State Memorial for music icon

Details for Michael Gudinski’s State Funeral have been released this afternoon.

The Mushroom Group have released a statement to say the Gudinski family have accepted the Victorian State Government’s offer of a State Memorial to celebrate the Aussie music icon's life.

The State Memorial will be held on the evening of Wednesday March 24 at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena.

Details of how to attend the State Memorial will be released later in the week.

The statement says Gudinski will be buried at a private family funeral this week.

"The family request privacy at this time and wish to thank everyone for their support and kind messages," it ended.

Shock discovery in ute

Police have released footage that left them shaking their heads after pulling over a ute to find a child hidden in the cabin.

Queensland Police shared the "dangerous" find on Facebook, initially pulling over the car allegedly driving 15km/h over the speed limit.

They said the driver's behaviour went from "bad to worse" when they realised there was "more to the story".

Behind the seats of the ute was a seven-year-old girl.

"If that vehicle had of been involved in a traffic crash the consequences would be absolutely horrific, " said Acting Chief Superintendent Ray Rohweder.

The driver received more than $900 in fines.

First glimpse of Archie in months

One of the most prominent talking points of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s exclusive chat with Oprah had to be the importance of their son, Archie.

And viewers were offered their first glimpse of the growing boy in months, with the young royal looking bigger and more playful than ever.

Tensions rise on eve of George Floyd murder trial

All eyes are on Minneapolis as what's said to be an "extraordinary" case against Derek Chauvin starts to unfold in court this week.

One of the most closely watched trials in years against the white policeman charged with killing George Floyd – a black man whose dying struggles were captured on a video seen around the world – will feature star attorneys, be held under tight security and be livestreamed.

Protesters have gathered near the courthouse, with many holding up “Black Lives Matter” placards and demanding “justice for George Floyd".

Chauvin is facing second-degree murder and manslaughter charges. He has been released on bail and will appear in court.

The process is expected to take up to three weeks, with arguments slated to begin on March 29.

Meghan: ‘Didn’t want to be alive anymore’

To recap a heartbreaking revelation from Meghan Markle in today's tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey, the public figure revealed just how much of an impact the constant criticism had on her mental health.

Meghan said there was a “breaking point” as the pressure mounted in her new role as a royal and she reached a point where she “didn’t want to be alive anymore” and was refused help from the royal family.

"It was all happening just because I was breathing. I was ashamed to admit it at the time, and admit it to Harry because of how much loss he’s suffered, but I knew that I didn’t want to be alive anymore," she said.

"That was a very real, clear, constant thought. He just cradled me. I went to the institution and said I needed help, and I was told it wouldn’t be good for the institution."

ABC reporter egged after Mardi Gras

A television reporter has made a formal complaint to police after he was allegedly egged while walking home from celebrating Mardi Gras in Sydney.

ABC’s crime reporter Mark Reddie confirmed to NCA NewsWire he had made a complaint after earlier taking to Twitter to explain what had happened.

He said he was walking home with a group of “gay guys” on Riley Street in Surry Hills in the early hours of Sunday morning when a red car drove by before stopping suddenly.

The group of men inside the car then repeatedly launched eggs at Reddie and his friends, the TV reporter alleges.

Harry says he was "cut off" financially from the royal family, revealing he only managed to survive because Diana "saw it coming" and made plans for his future.

“My family cut me off in the first half of 2020, but I got what my mum left me,” Harry told Oprah.

He said if it wasn't for the money his mother Princess Diana had left him then he wouldn't have been able to afford security for himself, Meghan and Archie.

“You asked what my mother thought of this, and I think she saw it coming," he said.

Harry said his mother would be "very angry" about how the situation has played out.
