Australian newspapers pay tribute to the Queen
The passing of Queen Elizabeth II dominated front pages of Australia’s newspapers on Saturday as the world mourns the loss of the Monarch.
The passing of Queen Elizabeth II dominated the front pages of Australia’s newspapers on Saturday with the nation’s daily papers all commemorating the Monarch in their respective editions.
Queen Elizabeth died at Balmoral Castle in Scotland on Thursday.
Her death was announced at 6.30pm local time (3.30am, Friday AEST). Britain’s longest-serving monarch was 96 years old.

The Weekend Australian showed the smiling late Queen front and centre against a white background. The headline read: “Elizabeth the Great”.
The Australian Financial Review’s weekend edition’s headline read “End of the Elizabethan era” with the official portrait of her coronation day on June 2, 1953.
The Saturday Telegraph ran the words ‘We love you ‘til we die’ in large print with a full-page picture of the Queen smiling.
A more recent side-on portrait of the Queen against a black backdrop dominated the front page of the Sydney Morning Herald with the subtle headline: “Queen Elizabeth II 1926-2022”.
The Herald Sun also opted for the famous portrait of the Queen’s coronation with the words: “farewell our Queen”.
The Saturday Age’s front and back page wrap showed a recent photo of the Queen smiling on the front with a picture of a young Queen in ceremonial dress on the back. The paper fittingly included one of her past quotes: “Grief is the price we pay for love”.
The quote also made the headline on the Adelaide Advertiser’s front page.
The NT News took a more local approach with a photo of Her Majesty visiting Alice Springs in 2000. “Farewell, our Queen,” the headline read.
A young Queen’s gaze in an intricate, golden picture frame featured large on The West Australian’s front page. It too used the headline: “Elizabeth The Great”.
Australian Community Media papers including the Newcastle Herald, The Canberra Timesand The Examiner used a recent side-on portrait as the centrepiece of their front pages.
Photographs and endearing tributes of Queen Elizabeth II dominated the front pages of UK newspapers on Friday.
The Sun, Daily Telegraph, Daily Express and Daily Mirror ran more recent images monarch later in life while other major papers opted for earlier pictures of the Queen.
Front pages of The Times, Guardian, Daily Star and Independent on Friday ran the portrait of the 27-year-old Monarch taken at her 1953 coronation.
