IT was a day of such high glamour that Jodi Anasta chose to don a formal collar for the Australian Turf Club’s launch of the 2014 Sydney Spring Carnival.

With husband Braith Anasta, Jodi led a first-class field of A-list ambassadors at Royal Randwick yesterday in an event that showed the ATC means business when it comes to spring racing this year.

Singer Ricki-Lee Coulter, model Rachael Finch, radio duo Ryan “Fitzy” Fitzgerald and Michael ‘Wippa’ Wipfli and TV personality Kyly Clarke all posed up against a spring-themed backdrop to mark the start of Sydney racing.

The ambassadors also marked the first birthday of the new Royal Randwick grandstand.

Racing icon Gai Waterhouse — who was also celebrating her 59th birthday — said industry experts from around the world admire Australia and the nation’s race days.

“It is a great time of the year because it is happening all over Australia, especially the eastern states with Sydney and Melbourne dominating,” Waterhouse said.

“The races are so exciting, the money is marvellous, and we have the best horses in the land.

“So many imports come over for this, that really everyone wants to look at Australia at this time of the year.”

When it comes to her birthday celebrations, Waterhouse is set to spend it with her family.

“I will go back to the stables when I finish here, then I am going to I home, have a manicure and go and see my granddaughter and daughter.

‘‘Then we will all go to dinner tonight.”

The overall consensus from the female ambassadors when it comes to fashion were keep it long, fine headwear is on trend and wear comfortable shoes.

Kyly Clarke told The Daily Telegraph: “It is the start of spring, the sun is shining and ladies have the opportunity to wear all the new collections from Australian designers.”

“I can see there is going to be a lot of thin headband ... lots of pastels and straight off the catwalk we’ll see a lot of back and white and white on white.

“Do not forget your double-sided tape and wear comfortable footwear.”
