Fashion competitions at Thoroughbred Racing SA meets now offer cash prizes to the winners
THE style stakes are higher than ever for racegoers attending Wednesday’s Balaklava Cup — now there’s cash involved.
THE style stakes are higher than ever for racegoers attending Wednesday’s Balaklava Cup.
That’s because the Fashions at the Races competition has had a makeover in time for South Australia’s largest country thoroughbred racing event with up to 10,000 people expected to attend.
Staring with Wednesday’s Cup, the best-dressed woman at each of the 26 meetings on the Thoroughbred Racing SA calendar will win cash, with runners up and winners of the best millinery and best-dressed man categories to be awarded prize packs.
The cash and prizes are in addition to those being presented by the Balaklava Racing Club.
While the weather bureau is predicting a top of 17C with a shower or two, it is not expected to dampen the enthusiasm of fashion-conscious men and women like RMT Management models Sebastian and Auburney who are wearing M.J. Bale, Keepsake the Label and Sylvy Earl millinery.
Face of the Balaklava Cup Libby Hopwood urged women to wear statement millinery to “look like a diva”.
