Derby Day 2018: Fashions on the field, all the hot looks and frock shocks
YOU’D expect Aussie supermodel Elle Macpherson to nail her Derby Day look, but this mullet dress over pants number has raised eyebrows.
A HUGE crowd gathered in front of the Lexus Design Pavilion ahead of Elle Macpherson’s scheduled arrival at Derby Day in Melbourne.
The supermodel, who was perhaps the biggest celebrity drawcard at the race day, was super late though and didn’t arrive until 12.45pm.
After posing for photos, Macpherson was whisked inside for media interviews on the ground floor of the three-level Lexus marquee.

The celebrity’s presence caused a few headaches for other Lexus guests as her team shut off access to the bathrooms which were also located on the ground level until she’d finished her interviews which went for more than 30 minutes.
The normally on-trend fashion figure also raised eyebrows at Flemington as she arrived in a ruffled white frock with ‘mullet’ back, worn over the top of skin-tight white pants.
Her simple, casual hat also confused and was in stark contrast to the intricate headwear donned by many other celebrities.
Macpherson arrived in Melbourne yesterday from her home in the United States. It seems she squeezed in time for a fake tan before today’s race day.

Another controversial international guest at this year’s race day is Scott Disick, best known for being the ex of Kourtney Kardashian.
His appearances on the family’s reality series Keeping Up With The Kardashians usually featured his booze-fuelled antics and unpredictable behaviour.
Word has it members of the media at Flemington have been told not to speak to Disick, who arrived today with American model Sofia Richie, daughter of iconic singer Lionel.
Disick and Richie have been dating for a while, according to their respective Instagram accounts.
Champion runner Usain Bolt arrived looking dapper and is talking positively to reporters about his football dreams, saying it’s not over.
This is despite yesterday leaving the Central Coast Mariners, meaning his Australian football dream has somewhat stalled.
While the main action is trackside today, punters have been keeping one eye on the slew of celebrity arrivals at various marquees at Derby Day.
This will be Jennifer Hawkins' final racing carnival as the face of department store Myer.
So, it’s no surprise the model and television presenter is going out with a fashion bang, stunning in a sophisticated white gown by local designer Maticevski.
Hawkins was radiant in the gown, which features a thigh-high split. She paired it with a wide-brimmed hit by Melissa Jackson.
And she certainly arrived in style, touching down at the track in a helicopter.
Bachelor alumni and cute couple Laura Byrne and Matty J kissed for photographers, with Byrne donning a cute crown. But we’re not loving her kind of casual outfit, which is more work-a-day than it is formal day wear.
It appears white was the winner in the monochrome theme, with fellow model and Myer ambassador Rachael Finch also opting for the colour.
She wowed in the full-skirt ensemble, also by Maticevski, and a flower crown by Ford Millinery.
Finch wrote on Instagram that she felt like a flower girl. Our verdict is that she’s more like an elegant swan.
Model and reality television star Elyse Knowles was another early standout, rocking a figure-hugging black one-sleeve Alex Perry number.
But it was her bling that caused a fuss — a whopping $100,000 worth of it, on loan from European house Bulgari.
“I’ll be holding onto these for dear life today,” she told the Herald Sun.
Former star of The Bachelorette and newsreader Georgia Love owned a very vampy look in an Alex Perry frock and hat by Lisa Tan.
Rebecca Judd went for a bit of both, turning heads as she arrived at the Bumble Marquee with husband Chris.
Sunrise presenter Edwina Bartholomew continued the popular Derby Day monochrome theme.
Fashionista and Melbourne socialite Jasmine Howell wore a custom white Mossman frock paired with an elegant black Chanel bag.
Comedian Dave Hughes scrubbed up nicely for the anticipated race day, donning a sleek black suit and textured tie.
His wife Holly adopted the white trend in a cut-out dressed paired with a fabric flower head piece.
But it was Hughesy’s yellow-tinted glasses, which his wife insisted he buy, that had him channelling John Lennon.
Sam Frost of The Bachelor and The Bachelorette fame looked fierce in a lacy number with a cute bow by Misha Collection and a veiled hat by Morgan and Taylor.
Fashion blogger Nadia Fairfax looked like a sexy Willy Wonka in a top hat and bell-sleeved tuxedo jacket with white ascot collared shirt.
Potential trend alert: covering your face with fishnet. We’ve seen it on Frost already, and now on Fairfax.
Aussie model Brooke Hogan donned an 80s-style power dress with tight button sleeves, a plunging neckline, cinched bodice and dramatically puffed sleeves from J Andreatta.
More to come …
