A look inside the most jaw-dropping Birdcage marquees

EVERYONE knows the real competition on Melbourne Cup day is between the marquees. Here’s a preview of what’s on offer this year.

THE Birdcage has been described as “the most lavish temporary facility on the planet”.

I have no clue what other temporary facilities are vying for that title so I’m happy to agree with that description.

Sitting right next to the track at Flemington racecourse, the exclusive area is equivalent to the size of 65 tennis courts and is filled with ritzy marquees from brands including Myer, Emirates and Schweppes.

Roughly 4000 celebrities (Paris Jackson is the big name guest this year), business leaders, politicians and reality TV rejects will be hosted inside the marquees within the Birdcage area each day of the Melbourne Cup Carnival.

Each marquee aims to be more “lavish” than the next and some of this years are truly NEXT LEVEL. Here are some of the highlights:

— The Emirates marquee is the only one that has in-built bathrooms. But wait, there’s more. Inside is a fully functioning lounge from one of their A380 planes, complete with flight attendants armed with cocktails and complimentary peanuts, of course.

— The Lexus marquee has its very own fragrance specialist. I know what you’re thinking, WTF is a fragrance specialist? Basically it’s a fella who will take appointments with guests inside the marquee, ask them a few questions about their tastes and lifestyles and will then determine their most suited scents. He’ll even mail out bottles of the perfumes/colognes to some guests’ homes after the races.

— And then there’s the Muum marquee which has an actual $2.2 million yacht inside. Need I say more?
