What the June 2021 Mercury retrograde has instore for Gemini season

Get ready, the biggest Mercury retrograde of 2021 is here. This is what it means for you and which star signs will feel it the most.

Astrologers believe that technology and communication could get disrupted during Mercury retrograde, impacting moods.

It’s the middle of the Gemini season.

Gemini’s time in the spotlight runs from May 20 to June 20. It’s a time where we’re feeling playful, chatty, curious and ready to socialise.

The twin’s sign is all about doing things with others and coming out of our shell after homebody Taurus season (April 19 to May 20). While Gemini season is fun and sociable, it’s also a bit unpredictable and moody and this feeling can be amplified during the June Mercury retrograde and as Venus moves into Cancer.

It’s a time where communication, money and relationship problems can arise so be extra careful when it comes to making big statements, purchases or choices in love.

Mercury is in retrograde when it appears to go backward in its orbit.

Whether you believe in this or not, it’s said to impact our ability to communicate effectively, use technology and travel. When you hear others blame things on Mercury, this is what they’re talking about.

Astrologer Vanessa Montgomery from Astro All Starz says it is a time when communication, money and relationship problems can arise so be extra careful when it comes to making big statements, purchases or choices in love.

Mercury retrograde: Be careful with communication

The June Mercury retrograde is considered the biggest of the year as Gemini’s ruling planet is Mercury.

Montgomery recommends double-checking any projects you are working on, especially data related ones, and think twice before sending any messages that could be taken the wrong way.

Taking some space to cool off might save you some drama with partners, friends, family members and co-workers in the coming weeks.

“This is not the week to sign a contract, make binding decisions, or launch your cruise ship, as was the case of the ill-fated Titanic,” Montgomery warns, adding that it’s OK to change your mind if you’re questioning any decisions.

“Take note of new information, and be ready to tweak as you go. Reflect and course correct,” she added.

The signs most affected by this Mercury retrograde (May 29 to June 22) are mutable signs Gemini, Sagittarius, Virgo and Pisces.

“Those signs are really in the eye of the storm,” Montgomery says, however adding that “it’s only Mercury” as it’s believed the planets closest to the Sun - Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars - have the least effect in astrology.

Venus in Cancer: Home is where the heart is

While the Sun passes through Gemini, the planet of love and beauty, Venus, is moving through Cancer.

Montgomery says Venus will be “out of bounds” until June 18.

“(This is) a technical term meaning beyond the zone the Sun reaches during midsummer and midwinter solstice. When Venus is out of bounds, check in with sensible friends before doing something you may regret later around permanent style choices, relationships, or maxing out spending,” she said.

“On the positive side, it’s a brilliant time for creatives or propelling your romantic life into a new stratosphere if you’ve stalled.”

Venus is not just about love, it’s also about money, which means spending habits may change as the planet moves from novelty loving Gemini to comfort king Cancer.

“Spending is likely to move from communications and novelty to home, comfort, and family. Rediscover your couch, chill, and self-care,” Montgomery said.

The signs most affected by Venus in Cancer are water signs, Scorpio, Pisces and Cancer.

“Cancer is a cardinal sign, so it’s a nice time to connect with family members and the people you care for”.

Last Quarter Moon before New Moon, Solar Eclipse

Did you break up or make up with a loved one during the May 26 Super Blood Full Moon and total lunar eclipse?

This week we’re in between the wash-up of that intense astrological event and next week’s New Moon and solar eclipse.

June 2’s Last Quarter Moon is about taking time to figure out the things that are no longer working for us before the New Moon steers us in a different direction.

Mercury retrogrades are said to occur when the planet moves in the opposite direction to Earth.

The Last Quarter Moon is a time of finishing things up, tying up the loose ends of projects and things that were instigated around the last New Moon on May 11.

Combined with the effects of Mercury retrograde it’s not the time to start something new or add more responsibilities to your plate.

If you’re feeling the pressure right now Montgomery suggests taking a walk by the water this week.

“Vedic (Indian) astrology suggests walking by water under the silver Moon’s cool light while wearing white is cooling and calming,” she said. “Take a date to make the most of those timeless romantic feels the subtle rays encourage.”
