‘Not taboo’: Influencer claps back after sharing X-rated fail
Steph Claire Smith revealed a raunchy story to her followers, many of whom shamed her for her NSFW admission.
Fitness influencer Steph Claire Smith has clapped back at critics who shamed her for opening up about her sex life on her podcast.
During a conversation with her Kicpod co-host and Kic co-founder Laura Henshaw, Smith described a recent experience with her husband when she introduced a new sex toy into the bedroom.
After receiving criticism for her raunchy admission, the 30-year-old entrepreneur told news.com.au that she believes discussing sex shouldn’t be off the cards just because she is in the public eye.
“I think the topic of sex shouldn’t be so taboo,” she said. “But if you’re not wanting to tune into that kind of content, that’s your prerogative.
“Our podcast has always covered women’s health, wellness and our personal lives, and sex comes under all three of those categories.”
Smith and Henshaw have been podcasting for over five years, and their episode content has naturally evolved over that time, as has their confidence to speak candidly about their personal lives.
“Laura and I have built the confidence to speak up about who we are, and what we stand for, and to cover the topics we find important,” Smith explained.
“We’re two women in our 30s, very comfortable with ourselves, our bodies and with the idea that people know we’re sexually active.”
The most common compliment they get about their podcast is that their listeners say they feel like they’re friends with the two women.
“It’s like we’re all sitting at a cafe talking about the stuff they would chat to their own friends about – or wish they could!” she shared.
“They might feel shame about bringing up certain topics – until they hear us speaking about it.”
One listener recently told the pair, “Honestly, your chats have made me way more comfortable to be open with my girlfriends and it has changed everything.”
“That’s why we do what we do!” she said proudly. “Whether it’s talking openly about sex or my recent ADHD diagnosis, the conversations Laura and I have on the podcast are helping people feel less shame and isolation around what they’re experiencing.”
Her comments came after she shared a clip from one of the podcast’s recent segments on her Instagram.
“The other night, Josh and I were having sex and decided to use a vibrator along with that. It’s not an uncommon occurrence,” she began.
“We were just trying some things, and I was trying something a little bit different with myself ... I decided to use it on my bum hole.”
Claire Smith said she was getting “quite into it”, and without realising, the toy had somehow ended up further in than anticipated, instead of being just on the outside.
“It was up there,” she admitted, “and I’m not usually into stuff up there, so I was a little bit like, ‘right, okay, that’s happened!’ and Josh looked at me like what’s going on.”
“I will admit, it felt pretty good, I just went with it, I let go of it, I was like there’s no way I’m pulling it out now. Then I got on top, and we both had a great time.
“We piss ourselves laughing because after... this thing is still on inside my butt and I didn’t want to take it out because I couldn’t reach the off button. So I had to do the old crouch walk to the bathroom and shower with this thing still on inside of me.
“I wanted to share it because it was quite funny.”
However, many of the commenters didn’t think so.
“What happens with your husband in the bedroom should stay in the bedroom,” one person claimed. “Where is the respect and privacy these days?”
“Oh gosh. Keep it to yourself,” another said. “This overly outward sexual chat is so overdone.”
“I just don’t find (this content) very appealing and I definitely wouldn’t want my daughter listening to this kind of content. Sad because I really looked up to you both,” one parent replied.
“I’m sure your children would be proud,” a fourth quipped.
Others claimed the podcast had swayed from its original direction.
“I feel like you guys have been trying too hard to capture people’s attention about the podcast,” one wrote, while another said they were trying to copy the format of the popular Call Her Daddy podcast.
Thankfully, many came out in defence of the influencer and praised her for talking so candidly.
“Love women who are honest about pleasure. Go girls!” cheered one.
“Yes to normalising sex chat! Ignore the haters,” another emphasised.
