Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally say their 15-year marriage is ‘Greatest Love Story Ever Told’

NICK Offerman and Megan Mullally have revealed the secrets of their 15-year marriage in their new book, modestly titled The Greatest Love Story Ever Told.

TO celebrate 15 years of marriage, TV power-couple Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally have revealed the details of how their ‘greatest love story’ has lasted the test of time.

The couple, who played sometime lovers in Parks and Recreation, have given readers an intimate look at their relationship in their new book The Greatest Love Story Ever Told.

Speaking with US media about the book, they spoke pretty candidly about their love for one another — and it gets a little weird sometimes but it’s also extremely cute.

Mullally explained that Offerman wasn’t interested in doing a book at first, but she noticed “it seems like people like us together as a couple.”

“I’m still having second thoughts,” he told Entertainment Weekly.

On the writing process, the couple said they just turned on a recorder, laid in bed and started answering questions.

“It’s strange having a pleasant and successful domestic relationship. We’re lucky enough to continue enjoying each other,” Offerman said.

“It’s simple. We’re just a couple (of) people who like doing puzzles together. When we do things — whether it’s onstage or onscreen or record a book together in bed — it’s pleasant and comfortable.”

When asked what topics Offerman was surprised by, he said “sex”.

“One unique thing about our marriage is that we haven’t actually had sex. I feel a little shy and insecure about talking about that in public,” he joked.

“Just don’t rush me,” Mullally replied.

The pair met in 2003 working on a play, and Mullally jokes it was love at first sight for one of them.

“It was for him,” she told ABC US.

“All the guys I dated up until that point had been very muscle-free, androgynous rock drummers … and then this came along,” Mullally said.

“We’ve never been apart for more than two weeks. I think it’s very helpful.”

Mullay said when it comes to making love last, it was more important to like the person you’re with.

“I just really like him. I like listening to him talk. I think he’s funny; I think he’s interesting; and he’s a great person. He’s a great man. He treats me like a queen, he does.”

“We’re lucky that we found each other,” Offerman said.

As for the writing process, Offerman told EW: “It was a collaboration” — Mullally designed the book and organised the photos for it.

“I know it sounds like Megan did a lot of the work here, but I’d like to add that I agreed to all of this. I also showed up where and when I was told and put on the clothing that was in front of me,” he said.

“I love doing anything creative with Megan — especially because she does all the work, so it’s a really fun collaboration for me.”

But it wasn’t all fun and jokes; Mullally said talking about family was difficult at times.

“I’d never really talked about my father, and so that was the hardest thing for me. Nick doesn’t have anything that’s hard to talk about, because he’s like a little twinkling bunny,” she said.

Offerman said his favourite thing about the book was his wife still makes him laugh — hard.

“When she answers me in a hilarious and curt way, it makes me laugh out loud every time. That’s my favourite thing about the book.”
