Stunning reason why woman became engaged at 16

A woman who became engaged at 16 years old, has revealed the stunning reason why she chose to make the life-changing decision so young.

A woman who got engaged when she was just 16 years old has revealed the stunning reason she chose to make the life-changing decision at such a young age.

US real estate investor and entrepreneur Ava Yuergens became engaged to her boyfriend of one year, Ben Otto, when she was just 16.

The now 17-year-old has taken to TikTok and YouTube to address questions as to why she became engaged at what is considered a very young age, after previously being afraid to speak out about it.

“I was scared to tell people, which sounds pathetic because it is, because it’s nothing to be ashamed about,” she said.

“A lot of people wonder why we got engaged and I just haven’t been able to say it.”

While Miss Yuergens provided five reasons why she and her now fiance decided to tie the knot, one answer divided followers and provoked a flood of comments on the TikTok video, which has just under 1 million views.

“It’s not a big deal at all … but basically me and Ben own a real estate investing company,” she said, also explaining how the couple formed the business at just 15-years-old.

“Ben is not only my best friend and my lover, he is also my business partner. I am very entrepreneurial minded and so is he and I have never met someone so similar.”

“In high school we were already making tens of thousands of dollars together and buying real estate together.”

“It’s (the engagement) because we both not only work really well together as business partners but we are also super compatible as a couple, and that is one of the reasons we got engaged,” she said in a separate YouTube video discussing the proposal.

The Wisconsin teen is a firm advocate for “doing things young,” and is driven by her business’ success and desire to add to her existing ventures.

“Age is just a number and you can literally do anything with your life,” Miss Yuergens said, while also revealing she would not be attending college to dedicate to her time to her two businesses.

Miss Yuergens stressed that the couple’s relationship “does not just revolve around business” but is just something they have in common that “drives” them together and the engagement was “not impulsive”.

“This was done for all the right reasons, and it’s my life and I am happy and I can confidently say it is the right decision,” she said.

The young-entrepreneur’s announcement and reasoning for the engagement was met with a diverse response.

“I was really hesitant on posting this video because I know there is going to be some hate,” she said. “I know a lot of you disagree with our choices and that’s totally okay.

“People either love it or they hate it.”

The teen couple’s marriage was “blessed” by both sets of parents, who Miss Yuergens said “came to a communal agreement they’re fine with it”.

“My inner circle weren’t really surprised, they kind of expected it, if they didn’t expect it then they were plainly happy for me,” she said.

“A lot of people outside my inner circle were surprised or judgmental.”

The couple said they are planning on becoming officially married in the summer after their senior year.

Relationship psychologist Rachel Voysey said it was common for couples to have a shared businesses and it could actually be beneficial for the strength and longevity of the relationship.

“It’s (having a business) like having a child together, you’re that invested in it,” she said.

“It probably means you have developed that ability to work together, problem solve and communicate. If you can do that together and you’ve developed that ability to negotiate, it gives you more confidence to commit.”

The dating and marriage expert said she was seeing less couples getting engaged in their teens or younger years of life, than in previous times.

“People feel they should develop more self awareness, have more experiences,” she said.

“I have seen it work, childhood sweethearts work, first loves can work for a long time, but I still think there is a little bit of a stigma. People still need to explain and qualify their choice.”
