Mosman residents angered by engaged couple leaving rubbish

A newly engaged couple have left residents fuming after their “dreadful” act at a popular beach.

One moment between two lovers has left residents outraged after a newly engaged couple failed to clean up the rubbish from their proposal at one of Sydney’s popular beaches.

A Mosman resident was in disbelief after she found plastic rose petals and zip ties strewn across Balmoral Beach on Sunday.

The woman took to social media to try to track down the organisers of the proposal near the south end of Balmoral.

“They left behind all of their trash, hundreds of plastic rose petals, sharp stakes sticking out of the sand and zip ties everywhere, just metres from our beautiful ocean,” she wrote.

“What a way to celebrate love hey?”

The woman believed a business might have been responsible for the extravagant proposal and was left outraged at the disregard for the environment after none of the rubbish from the engagement was picked up.

“To the company who set this up, what a way to conduct your business,” she wrote.

“Nature is not just your background, it is a living being that needs care.

“We are lucky to experience life in a place that is so beautiful, but it only stays that way if you don’t make it worse with your presence.

“If you are going to enjoy it, take some responsibility and don’t trash it. It’s really not that hard.”

Other residents backed her on social media, with many agreeing the lack of respect for the park and beach was disgusting.

“Unbelievable that people would even think of doing this when we know so much better. They should be fined and forced to do proper clean-up,” one person wrote.

Another said it was “dreadful” to see all the rubbish.

“Most of us locals make a huge effort to keep the area litter free … and recycle as much as possible. Very upsetting,” they wrote.

Another said the display was “completely unacceptable on all levels, incredibly inconsiderate of others who also want to use the facilities plus it is a danger to marine life as well as casual walkers”.
