Couple get hitched after just two weeks of dating
A couple has tied the knot after having dated for just two weeks – leaving their family and friends in shock.
This young couple decided to wait a moment before tying the knot – only the moment they waited was quite short.
TikTok creators Trey Bell, 20, and Clara Bell, 18, recently went viral for reportedly getting hitched in October – after just two weeks of dating.
The newlyweds, however, feel that giving their relationship half a month to simmer was more than enough time to tell if they were making the right choice, the NY Post reports.
“We spent every day together during that time and got married on the same day that Trey proposed the idea – we eloped,” Clara said.
“When Trey first proposed the idea of getting married, I was pretty on board. I was like, ‘That’s crazy,’ but we did it.”
The two had their very sudden $US200 ($A280) ceremony alone in Panama City, Florida. They reportedly bought rings for under $US5 ($A7) and hired a minister and photographer through a company that offered same-day officiants.
The wedding was so last-minute, even their families weren’t able to attend.
“Our families were certainly surprised,” Clara said. “It was surprising in a shocking way, like, ‘What?! You did what?!’”
In fact, Clara’s relatives allegedly weren’t even aware she was dating Trey.
“So not only did I have to say I was married, I had to introduce them to my husband because they didn’t know him.”
But the families reportedly have given their blessings since then.
“They’re happy now. Trey met my parents; I’ve met his parents,” the teen from Kentucky said.
“They’re super happy for us now, but at the time, they were just shocked and confused. I wouldn’t say they were shocked in a bad way, though.”
While the bride and groom only gave their current relationship two weeks to settle before walking down the aisle, they’d known each other for a few years: The two briefly dated in 2018 after meeting via Snapchat.
“We’d dated for a little while when I was 15 and Trey was 17. He reached out to me on Snapchat, asking me to go kayaking.
“I went kayaking and then we dated for that summer.
“When we went to different schools, we separated. He went off to college in Kentucky, and I went to a prep school in Georgia to finish high school there.”
They didn’t speak during that time but reconnected again over Snapchat this September. The rest is recent history, and the couple now live together and say their rapid relationship is working out.
“[It] just felt like we should do it, even though it seemed like a crazy thing to do, because I wanted it to work out this time,” said Clara, who also noted that any relationship has its difficulties.
“I’d say we’re still in the honeymoon stage. Marriage is definitely difficult, but not extremely difficult.”
Perhaps unsurprisingly, social media was reportedly divided about the union.
“Just wait till they get divorced cause they only dated for 2 weeks,” one TikTokker wrote, while another lent support, writing: “Beautiful couple, ignore the hate, they’re jealous.”
Clara said she wouldn’t recommend that everybody does it, “but for us, I feel like it was the right decision”.
