Bride shamed over ‘trashy’ wedding photos
Tash Kingston posted some funny photos online, taken during her wedding, but not everyone was impressed by the X-rated nature.
Following a hellish few months, Tash Kingston desperately needed a laugh.
The bride-to-be had tragically lost her dad just weeks before her big day and was looking for something to lighten the day.
Inspired by an image she’d seen on Pinterest years ago, Tash and her now husband, Cameron, decided to bring some giggles by posing for a set of humorous wedding images.
“I’d seen the pics ages ago, before we were even engaged,” Tash told news.com.au.
“When our photographer asked for a list of photo ideas, I thought: Why not?”
THE PHOTOSHOOT
Originally, the plan had been to show 22-year-old Tash kneeling in front of her husband while he high-fived his best man, who also happened to be the groom’s brother.
“The bridal party had no idea. They were having drinks while we got into position, and then they were like, woah … what’s going on here?”
“Then they just cracked up laughing.”
In a moment of spontaneity, maid-of-honour Emma — who is married to the best man — decided to join in for an even funnier “welcome to the family” snap, with the two brothers high-fiving as the women were on their knees.
“I was happy for Emma to join in, because it just made the original idea bigger and better.,” the bride said.
“It made for good, funny memories with my new in-laws.”
THE BACKLASH
Months after their May wedding, Tash posted the pics in a private group online.
“If you ladies are looking for a funny pic idea to get on the day … we definitely had some laughs,” she wrote.
Despite being fully clothed and faced away, many were less than impressed with the joke image.
“I literally cringe any time people post these,” one woman wrote.
“I think it’s trashy as. Not how I would want to remember my wedding day,” another said.
“This is so not appropriate for a wedding. Good on them if they like it, but all I can think of is: ‘I now pronounce you husband and wife. You can now suck his d***’.”
Another person added: “I’m just thinking about the kids going through the album and seeing it and going: ‘Mummy, what are you doing to Daddy?’”
But others jumped to the bride’s defence, with some even posting their own funny wedding snaps.
“Some of you are so uptight and salty, it’s ridiculous. Not your cup of tea? Scroll on! How hard is it to not piss on someone else’s parade?” one person clapped back.
“Some people need to grow a sense of humour. High-five to you guys on having an everlasting funny moment, alongside such an important moment in your life.”
NOT CONCERNED
Tash — who was 30-weeks pregnant at the time — isn’t concerned about the negative reactions.
“Some of the comments are so negative!” she said.
“His pants stayed zipped with the belt done up, so I don’t get why everyone’s having a big deal about it.”
The bride said one woman, in an attempt to make her feel better, shared a photo where the roles were reversed.
“But while some have said it’s trashy and so on, a heap of people have said it’s a cool idea, and taken it on for themselves,” Tash said.
“I wouldn’t say it’s X-rated, raunchy or trashy. It’s just a funny picture.”
She argued that people send nudes to strangers online all the time.
“This is my husband and I having some fun on our wedding day,” Tash said.
“We know it’s not for everyone, but it’s literally not for everyone — just me and my husband, and the group I shared it on to give ideas to others.
LAUGHTER AFTER TRAGEDY
Just weeks before her wedding day, the Queenslander’s father had tragically died by suicide.
“It was hard accepting my dad wouldn’t be at my wedding, or meet my baby,” Tash said.
To top it off, the wedding was also almost ruined when Tash’s wedding dress was destroyed by a seamstress, only to be repaired at the last minute, and delivered the night before the ceremony.
“I’d had a really crappy lead up to the day. I needed to have some fun, and this was just one bit of fun we had,” she said.
“Those snaps were also obviously not the only ones we took. We did some other funny ones, too.”
LOOKING BACK
Even though the pair hadn’t intended on showing family, Tash’s mother-in-law came across some of the snaps when looking through the photos from their photographer.
“She just cracked up, and said it would be something to look back and laugh on,” she said.
Despite the backlash from some online commenters, Tash says the controversial images are some of her favourites from the day.
“I love them! Especially the one where I’m laughing out the side, because it shows the fun we were both having,” she said.
“It also looks like I’ve been busted — which is what it felt like!”
Now though, Tash is hoping people will respond to the photos with kindness, rather than judgment.
“I feel like saying if you don’t have a sense of humour, please move along,” she said.
