Bride asks wedding guests for $30k donations to fund reception, honeymoon

The woman’s brazen request for “cold hard cash” to fund her wedding in exchange for racy prizes has sparked outrage after it was shared on Reddit.

Bridezillas: The most intense and bizarre wedding stories

Just when it seemed like we’d seen every outrageous wedding request in the book, a couple’s bid to have the “amazing” wedding of their dreams funded by guests has gone viral.

The Facebook post, which was screenshotted and shared to Reddit, sees the bride describe in detail how she and her groom need their guests to finance their wedding.

But the bride doesn’t just expect guests to donate thousands of dollars out of the kindness of their heart, explaining that the couple will provide increasingly racy favours in exchange for a money donation.

The bride begins the post by lamenting that several guests had already changed their attendance because of COVID-19.

“This is dangerous because we have a $20,000+ monetary goal MINIMUM,” the woman, believed to be from the United States, wrote.

“Ladies and gentlemen most of this money will help cover the cost of this amazing wedding and goes right back to you. This is for YOU.”

The bride says that if “heaven forbid y’all are generous we will actually get to book our European tour” so the couple can “spend a month travelling, bar hopping, swinging, and more”.

“Pleaaaase have a bit of empathy for (the groom) and I because COVID and its nonsense has actually added depression into our lives,” the bride writes, “so we really need y’all to open your wallets and just give a little bit.”

The bride then outlines the “guest giving tiers” available for which those who donate can receive increasingly racy favours in exchange for their generosity.

Giving any amount up to $1000 will entitle you to a thankyou note with “My Kiss Stain Signature” while for a $1000 to $1500 the bride will throw in her wedding thong.

A gift of $1500 to $2500 will give you a night with the couple and a bottle of wine while Lindt chocolates are fed to you.

If guests give $2500 to $3500 they will get a party for them thrown by the couple as well as a “Ceremony of Appreciation (18+)”.

For $3500 to $5000 you can actually join the couple for part of their honeymoon “but you will sleep on the couch”, the bride advises.

For guests that spend the highest donation amount, $5000 to $6500, they will get the “ultimate prize, weekend getaway with (the groom) and I where we drown you in affection and spoil you”.

Understandably the Facebook post got hundreds of comments on Reddit from people baffled that a couple would ever make such a request of their wedding guests.

“How do these people have friends to begin with?” one person commented, while another said having chocolates fed to you was “creepy”.

“That’s going to be extra fun with spending 2 weeks in quarantine each time they cross a border,” one said of their plans for a one-month honeymoon in Europe during a pandemic.

“I cannot get over how proudly tacky some people are,” one commented, while another said they had been “embarrassed” to even give their guests the link to their wedding registry when getting married, let alone ask for money.

“But it just felt so weird getting gifts for getting married like … it’s not an accomplishment … it’s a choice,” they wrote.

Many people also had questions about the thong, pointing out that several people could request this “guest giving tier” option.

“What if 10 people sign up for this level? She gonna wear 10 wedding things?” another added.

“How many thongs is she gonna have on, what happens if more than one person donates? Is it gonna be like a time share?” one person asked.
