Olivia Molly Rogers' breakup revelation

Justin McKeone has responded to Olivia Molly Rogers’ comments about their marriage breakdown four months after they split.

The former Miss Universe Australia confirmed in an Instagram story last October that “after four and a half years together, Justin and I have come to the difficult decision to separate as a couple”.

The news – just eight months after the couple’s lavish wedding on Victoria’s Bellarine Peninsula – came as a shock to Rogers’ thousands of followers.

She told the Life Uncut podcast, hosted by Bachelor stars Laura Byrne and Brittany Hockley, that she and McKeone broke up because he made her “miserable”.

She also said she was “terrified” of falling pregnant with his baby.

McKeone has now hit back, saying there is more than one side to the story and that he’d prefer it if she respected the “dignity of a broken marriage”.

“A wise person once said never believe there is one side to a story. Respect the dignity of a broken marriage > speaking publicly,” he said in a recent Instagram story.

“My nearest and dearest know my side and that’s all that matters to me. That’s all you’ll ever (hear) from me. Thank you for all the messages of support - I can honestly say l’ve never been happier.”

Rogers added in her chat on the Life Uncut podcast that she had real doubts about marrying McKeone.

“It felt like I had too much to lose,” she said.

“It felt like too much to pull away from if I was to change my mind or cancel the day.”

In the end, she decided to split with him because she “didn’t have anything left to give”.

“When it’s a healthy relationship you can work on it as a team. But when the same things keep coming up over and over and over again you’re flogging a dead horse,” she said.

In a recent interview with Mamamia’s Fill My Cup podcast, Rogers admitted to host Allira Potter that she hasn’t “been that good at choosing partners”.

“It’s funny, I feel like I’ve always been quite good at choosing friends,” Rogers said.

“I just haven’t been that good at choosing partners. We’re working on that.”

Rogers said she’d “definitely” been putting herself out there more since her break-up from McKeone.

“You can get so comfortable in certain situations – whether that is a relationship with a partner or with certain friends that you’ve had for years – but they might not actually be serving you,” she said.

“I think it is important to always re-evaluate your relationships and see if they are bringing what you need. And if they’re not, then end it. I think there’s no shame in getting out of something that isn’t serving you anymore.”

While she hasn’t shared much of what led to the split, Rogers has been open in interviews and on her own social media about the steps she’s taken to heal.

“It’s a tricky thing to navigate because, obviously, there are two people in a relationship,” Rogers told Potter.

“Like, I’m such an open person and I want to share more, but I do also need to set boundaries and protect my ex in a way, I suppose.”

Having recently sold the couple’s home, celebrated her first Christmas and moved into her own apartment, Rogers said it had been “a bit scary” to “put myself out there a bit more”.

“You have to renavigate the world on your own and figure things out moving forward.”
