Ex mother-in-law’s controversial act

Becca thought her relationship with her mother-in-law had survived the divorce. But all it took was one playdate to realise she was horribly wrong.

It helps that the Melbourne mum has managed to keep the peace with her ex-mother-in-law.

“We actually get along fairly well,” she tells Kidspot.

“I see her more often than I see my son’s dad. She looks after Ruby on a regular basis.”

As they have such a good relationship, Becca never expected her ex-MIL would do anything to little Ruby without asking.

But earlier this month, Becca got the shock of her life when her ex-MIL did just that.

Ruby had spent the weekend with her dad and grandma - but when Becca picked her up on Sunday, something looked different.

It took Becca a minute to realise that Ruby’s hair had been cut.

“She told me that she had trimmed the front of my daughter’s hair because it was ‘pissing her off’,” Becca says.

“I was shocked when she said it, so I didn’t react at all.

“She’s never done anything like this before.”

It wasn’t Ruby’s first haircut - therefore Becca knew her little girl moves around a lot.

For this reason, she doesn’t blame her ex-MIL for being uneven with the scissors.

“Fair enough it pissed her off,” Becca says.

“But to actually do something about it, without permission, crosses the line for me.

“I was shocked at the entitlement she thinks she has?

“I just wish she would have let me know.”

Ruby’s hair has yet to grow back.

But Becca has decided not to confront anyone about the haircut for now.

“I didn’t want to come off as rude,” she says.

“I haven’t said anything to his dad either.

“How do I nicely tell her not to do it without asking?”
