Woman met her boyfriend 12 years after giving birth to his child

It sounds like something out of a movie: A woman has fallen in love with a sperm donor 12 years after giving birth to his child.

It sounds like something out of a movie.

In 2005, Jessica Share gave birth to her daughter Alice using a sperm donor in Ohio.

Aaron Long was a sperm donor in the mid-1990s and Ms Share — together with her female partner at the time — were attracted to his profile.

“You do treat it like a dating profile and you build this story in your head of the values that you have and sort of put them on,” Ms Share told Good Morning America.

The couple decided to have another child, again using Mr Long’s sperm before parting ways.

Ms Share could have no idea that 12 years on Mr Long would turn out be her boyfriend.

The love story began about three years ago when a curious Alice, then 11, began researching her ancestral history through 23 and Me, a DNA testing site.

Through the website, she was able to locate Mr Long, her biological father, and Ms Share reached out.

In a blog for BBC.com Ms Share explained that “there are a lot of Aaron Longs in the world, so I set to work finding ‘the one’.”

“I searched a professional social network for clues. Squinting at each Aaron Long, I wondered if I would recognise the donor right away.”

She then discovered a Seattleite named Aaron Long with the correct workplace and with photos of each of his school portraits through the years.

“There was no doubt,” she said. “We agreed to become friends on a social networking site and Aaron sent a 50-page long life history, which I devoured.

“He’d spent several years in a band in the town where we lived. How many times had we walked past him in the supermarket, I wondered?”

Eventually, after months of communication the now-couple decided to meet.

“When we met in person. I don’t know, the attraction’s even harder for either of us to deny,” Mr Long told Good Morning America.

Ms Share explained that she still felt reserved, however, said: “This was not my relationship or my journey to jump into and mess up forever.”

Mr Long then invited Ms Share and Alice to live with him and today, they happily live together in his Seattle home.

Ms Share’s other daughter, who is also from the sperm of Mr Long, lives with Ms Share’s ex partner.

Mr Long, however, has even more biological children — he believes it’s around 67, but admits it’s hard to put an exact figure on it.

Several of Mr Long’s children will be featured in the upcoming documentary, “Forty Dollars a Pop,” including his son Bryce, who is now in the military, and his daughter Maddie, who also resides in the communal home.

“I feel like, you know, I’m not going to be these kids’ parents, but I feel like I can be their friends, and I can be, I don’t know, just someone for them to look at and think about when they contemplate nurture and nature questions,” Mr Long said.
