There’s a new solo dating trend taking over

There’s always a new dating trend on the rise and the latest one is pretty shocking but not for the reason you’d expect.

Why fall in love with someone else when you can fall in love with yourself?

It might sound like a silly or self-indulgent question, but it is one that Gen Z women are beginning to explore.

Millennial women were obsessed with becoming powerful girl bosses with a partner ripped straight from a romantic comedy. It was all about having the perfect career and the perfect man and anything less was seen as a social failure.

In response, Gen Z women are obsessed with lazy girl work trends and dating themselves. Yes, just themselves.

Millennial women wanted to do everything, but Gen Zers just want to enjoy themselves.

The solo dating trend has become popular on TikTok, with the hashtag racking up thousands of views.

One creator went viral for sharing her first date with herself after a terrible heartbreak only seven months ago.

“I’m learning to fall in love again, this time with myself,” she explained.

Her TikTok featured her having a fabulous day by herself, including a walk, snacks, and even patting dogs.

She explained that she’d decided to start dating herself because she realised that to “heal,” she needed to start doing things independently.

Her candid dating confession was met with praise from her peers.

“I have so much respect for this video. Healing after a break up is one of the hardest things someone will ever have to deal with,” someone praised.

“This is an amazing idea,” another exclaimed.

“This is one of the most powerful videos. Thank you for being so real and so vulnerable. I appreciate you,” another wrote.

The trend has cemented itself so firmly into Gen Z culture that some creators are even sharing tips on how to get better at dating yourself.

They suggest activities like going on day trips, heading to the movies or even just going out and buying yourself some flowers.

The idea is you can do anything you’d normally only reserve for romantic dates by yourself. It’s all about romancing independence instead of men.

It is a pretty big cultural turnaround when you consider that millennial women pored over dating advice on how to trick average men into loving them.

Yet Gen Zers are instead teaching each other how best to pamper themselves without needing a romantic partner.

Creator Annaliese shared that she’d been dating herself for over a year, and she’d become quite the expert at spoiling herself.

“I’ve been actively going on solo dates every week,” she revealed and then explained that the experience had been “transformational” for her confidence.

She shared that a typical date included everything from buying flowers for herself to treating herself to a lovely meal or even just a glass of wine.

Solo dating has become such a thing that it even has its own anthem thanks to indie singer Alex.

Her lyrics from her song titled ‘Dating Myself’ are now being used in videos where creators share their solo romances.

“I’m not single. I’m just dating myself. No one knows me better, it is better for my health.”

It has never been a better time to love yourself.
