Terri Irwin confronts relentless rumour about love life, says ‘Steve was it for me’
Terri Irwin has been keeping count of all the men she’s been romantically linked with. In a new interview, she sets the record straight.
Terri Irwin has opened up about her love life, and the high-profile men she has been romantically linked with.
Speaking to Qweekend magazine tomorrow in The Courier Mail, Ms Irwin confirms she is indeed “very, very, very single” despite rumours linking her to high profile men such as Russell Crowe, Richard Wilkins and John Travolta.
Steve Irwin, the man known as the Crocodile Hunter, died in 2006 at the age of 44, leaving Ms Irwin a widow, and children Bindi and Robert without a father.
“I’ve stopped counting all the men I am supposed to have had flings with … the more recent one is John Travolta,” Ms Irwin says, “which is new to the mix.’’
“But you know, and I keep saying this, and I think maybe 15 years later people are finally starting to believe me, Steve was it for me.
“That’s just the way it is. I had a big, big love and it was enough to last a lifetime.”
Ms Irwin says she is “comfortable” with her single status, and “too busy’’ to be chasing anyone.
“I think when you become a young widow, it can be uncomfortable for other couples, that whole, ‘Oh well, now she’s single, is she looking around?’’’ she says in Qweekend.
“And my male friends are more comfortable, they can see I’m not chasing them. I’m too busy to chase anybody,” she laughs.
Ms Irwin also opens up in the interview about the financial impact of Covid on Australia Zoo and how it has been to become a grandmother and to watch Bindi become a beautiful mother.
Ms Irwin says on her count she has been linked with 25 men she can recall.
“I have kept track because it’s kind of funny … let’s see, apparently it’s all the Hogans – that’s Paul and Hulk; Russell Crowe, and most recently, it’s Richard Wilkins,’’ she says.
“I think the most flattering would be Russell because he is such a good person, and a very good friend to our family, and I actually do really love him because he loved Steve and they were such good friends.
“You know, he stepped up so much when Steve died. Russell was the very first person to call me afterwards, and he just said, ‘I am so, so sorry.’
“It meant a lot and now I kind of feel sorry for him because he is forever being linked to me so I could be cramping his style – same for Richard Wilkins.’’
