Sophie Monk opens up about her weird new relationship with mystery Aussie she met on a plane

SOPHIE Monk has revealed a weird fact about the new mystery man she’s dating after her The Bachelorette romance.

The Bachelorette - Episode 12 - Who Wins Sophie's Heart

IT’S been less than a year since Sophie Monk broke up with Stu Laundy, the millionaire publican she chose as the winner of The Bachelorette, but now Monk has found love with a new mystery man.

The pair met unexpectedly on a plane after “three champagnes” in business class last month and even shared a kiss mid-air.

Monk wants to keep her boyfriend’s identity private, but says he’s an Australian who isn’t famous and lives overseas, based mainly in the US.

But there’s a catch — that rendezvous on the plane is actually the only time they’ve seen each other.

“We talk everyday on the phone for like five hours. It’s really good but I’ve only seen him once,” Monk told news.com.au during an interview to promote her new role as an ambassador for Vaseline Lip Therapy.

Monk said the long distance relationship works with both of their busy travel schedules.

“He’s everywhere … we could always meet up, but it’s perfect for me. It just works because I’m never home either. You don’t want someone who’s always waiting around for you and you feel bad,” she said.

When asked if she was still in touch with her ex Laundy, Monk replied, “No!”

But she says she doesn’t regret the relationship or going on The Bachelorette.

“Not one part of me regrets it,” Monk said. “I learned so much about myself. That was the best part of it. I just had to learn to be confident really quickly. Even though I come off very extroverted, I’m not. You have to be yourself and be confident.”

Monk announced she had split with Laundy on Instagram in January.

“I don’t know how to explain this because it’s an unusual circumstance to be in,” Monk wrote.

“But because I entered this relationship so publicly, I know I owe an answer to Australia about my personal life. I went into this experience looking to settle down and start a family.

“I gave it the best shot I could and my intentions were everything I said I was looking for, but unfortunately it just didn’t work out,” the post said.

“As much as I respect him (Laundy), we are just very different people. There were no contracts or pressure to stay together whatsoever from anyone and we remain friends.

“The positive in this whole experience is it taught me to jump out of my comfort zone in order to find real love and made me much stronger.”

Laundy said that it was Monk’s Instagram post that made him realise the relationship was truly over.

“It was Soph’s (decision) — and apart from being so publicly brushed, I have no hard feelings whatsoever,” he told Nova’s Fitzy and Wippa.

“I sort of found out via Instagram, but we both knew in our hearts it was pushing toward a friendship … I think it was a decision we’d both been coming to.”

Monk is currently based on the Gold Coast after spending several months in Europe filming Channel 9’s reality dating show Love Island.
