Mum promises daughter money to encourage 100 first dates
A woman has revealed her mother promised her sister $500 to go on 100 dates with 100 different men before she chose who she wanted to marry.
A mum paid her daughter $500 to go on 100 dates with different men before settling down and getting married.
TikToker Alyse Carolyn shared a video of her family with two cakes, with one having the word “yea” on it while the other having the number 100 in it.
The seven second clip also showed a mobile phone in a woman’s hand as she scrolled through a huge list of names.
The video, which has more than seven million views, was captioned; “when your mum pays your sister $500 to go on 100 dates with 100 different guys before getting married.”
Alyse, who didn’t show her sister in the clip, said it took her sister a few years to complete the challenge that had been set for her.
Alyse, from Utah, hashtagged “Utah things” and “Mormon” in the video’s caption.
Social media users had mixed views on the matter, with many saying $500 wasn’t enough for them to agree to the conditions.
“This is the start of a rom com but she falls in love with guy 99 and drama ensues,” one joked.
Another added: “Never let your boyfriend stop you from finding your husband.”
“As someone who had to go on a ridiculous number of dates before I met my BF, it would have been nice to get a little bonus gift for it,” one social media user said.
Another said: “Honestly this is golden idea. But I’d need a lot more than $500 to do 100 first dates. It’s rough out there.”
One commented: “My dad did this between his ex and meeting my mum. My mum was #66. He said you are compatible with 1/100.”
“Omg. the introvert in me would need at least 25k to convince me to meet 100 different humans,” another user commented.
Mormonism prevents dating before the age of 16, and advises to “avoid going on frequent dates with the same person” in a bid to “make many friends”.
It also said unless you’re considering marriage there is no point in dating yet.
