Dating is hard enough at the best of times, but the younger generation have “exposed” something wild about dating with modern technology.
Gen Z are currently exposing the embarrassing things they’ve done to capture the attention of someone they like – and it’s left Millennials feeling rather smug.
Social media is currently awash with videos being shared by 20-somethings all taking part in a new online dating trend.
The “I remember when I lost my mind” trend involves young folk sharing the humiliating things they’ve done to “catch their crushes attention”, most of which sadly weren’t successful.
While almost everyone has done something stupid while navigating the complicated path to love, there’s one major difference between Gen Z and every other generation that has gone before them: technology.
Yep, there’s real footage of these failed romantic gestures, and just as you’d imagine, they’re all cringe-worthy and make for highly entertaining viewing.
But as the Gen Zers cash in on their TikTok views with their tragic dating admissions, Millennials are watching on from afar, many thanking their lucky stars “social media didn’t exist” when they were angsty, hormone-filled teenagers.
The videos, which are all set to the 2006 hit ‘Crazy’ by Gnarls Barkley, have understandably gained a lot of attention – largely due to their hilarious and desperate nature.
One woman’s teenage throwback, which has racked up almost 40 million views, sees her sharing a clip of herself erratically dancing in a bid to impress a boy.
“I remember when I liked a guy who had a thing for dancers so I made a private story only for him and posted this,” she captioned the hilarious clip.
It quickly attracted thousands of comments, with may labelling the video “harrowing”, and declaring they would never share it.
“This would haunt me at night,” one remarked.
“Back in my day we logged in and out of MSN in the hope of getting their attention,” another shared.
As another shared: “I’d take this to my grave.”
Another woman revealed her crush never spoke to her again after she sent his mum a video of herself singing his “favourite song”.
“He told me I ruined Bruno Mars for him and to never talk to him ever again. I thought I did pretty well,” she captioned the clip.
Many were quick to laugh at her misfortune, stating she had “definitely lost her mind” when she sent it.
“Stoppp the FBI couldn’t get this out of me,” one commented.
“This is the most painful one I’ve seen,” another claimed.
Another pretended they had been arrested after her crush said he “liked girls who have had run-ins with the police”.
Her attempt at convincing him she was a “bad girl” involved wearing a face mask and flipping off the bird while wearing an entirely stripped outfit.
The clip, which has over 12 million views, has drawn a similar response to others, with some declaring: “You’re very brave posting this.”
