THERE are many things people love to hate when it comes to gushy romantic couples. Get ready to roll your eyes.

1. Losing them

A friend goes into the serious relationship/engagement/marriage zone — never to be seen or heard from again. When I was single I would joke that my friends bought a one-way ticket to “boyfriend land”.

2. Their financial comfort

Shared rent? Check! Shared bills? Check! Shared Ubers and groceries and cooking? Check! How is a single guy or gal to compete with that?

3. Having a timekeeper

This one seems to be a real stickler for the men in the house. Their wife expects some form of “home-time” when the husband is out with his buddies and he needs to check in with extension notifications and requests. “Single people love to jeer and laugh,” one married friend told me. “Can’t I just hang or do you have a curfew?”

4. Facebook kissing pics

We have all seen them. Save it for a private album, folks. Or at least keep it to a respectable minimum.

5. Fake happiness (we know the truth)

There is nothing more frustrating that when you know your friend is with someone who does not make them happy. They fight like hell and then all we see at parties or on Instagram is coupled bliss with hashtags like #loveofmylife (puke!). Are they trying to kid others or themselves?

6. No more solo planning

Why is it that when your friend couples up you no longer get cocktails/sushi/brunch with just him or her anymore? It is often the two of them or the partner joins later. And what if you don’t love the partner? Plus, handling a bill for three is always awkward.

7. Married people are way less available

You can understand how friendships naturally shift when someone gets married or is newly single but I was always a little sad for myself when this happens. When a single friend gets couples up their free time evaporates and their life becomes more about family stuff and less about friendship stuff.

8. Condescending, “you will find someone” conversations

This one might be the worst. It’s as if the marrieds have everything figured out (let me assure you, they don’t) and love to give advice and make suggestions. However well meaning, sometimes it just feels great to be single and you want to enjoy it!
