BIG Brother 2013 winner Tim Dormer has fallen in love with his male best friend, Ash Toweel.

Dormer, 32, says he met Toweel, 27, at a party in 2014 and the pair became mates right away.

But it was only in May, when Dormer spent three months overseas competing in the fourth season of Big Brother Canada, that he realised that he was in love with his friend.

“I’ve loved sharing my life on social media, but there’s one special part of my life I haven’t shared with you all until now … this last year I fell in LOVE with the most beautiful person. His name is Ash, he’s my best friend and he truly gets me and has made me very happy!” Dormer wrote on Instagram this morning.

He describes his sexuality as fluid and while he has dated women in the past, says he has always been open to dating men.

“I’ve always considered my sexuality to be fluid and I’ve never been interested in labels which categorise and divide. I’m only interested in celebrating what we all have in common, the freedom to share the most precious beautiful gift that holds this magnificent universe together … LOVE,” he wrote.

“I’m proud to now share our story in the hope that other misfits like myself who don’t quite know where they fit in life won’t give up. LOVE yourself, and I hope one day LOVE finds us all! And for those who don’t understand us ... I hope you get there one day.”

Toweel told Who magazine he believes Australians are becoming more accepting of the LGBTQ community.

“I think younger generations are lucky it’s just getting better and better. They will get to grow up where hopefully it isn’t a thing and you can bring home whoever you want. It’s just the person you love and it’s such a positive thing,” he said.

Dormer says he hopes that same-sex marriage will soon become legal.

“Everyone wants to find that special person to spend the rest of their life with,” he told Who.

“I’m lucky to have found that. Happens to be another man, but it’s the same love as any other relationship that identifies as love.”

Dormer isn’t the first celebrity to fall in love with their best mate this year.

Eat, Pray, Love author Elizabeth Gilbert, who announced her separation from her husband in July, recently revealed she is in a relationship with her best friend Rayya Elias.

Elias was diagnosed with pancreatic and liver cancer earlier this year, which brought the pair closer.

“Something happened to my heart and mind in the days and weeks following Rayya’s diagnosis,” Gilbert wrote on Facebook in September.

“Death — or the prospect of death — has a way of clearing away everything that is not real, and in that space of stark and utter realness, I was faced with this truth: I do not merely love Rayya; I am in love with Rayya,” she wrote.

“In the moment I first learned of Rayya’s diagnosis, a trap door opened at the bottom of my heart (a trap door I didn’t even know was there) and my entire existence fell straight through that door.

“From that moment forward, everything became about HER. I cancelled everything in my life that could be cancelled, and I went straight to her side, where I have been ever since.”

The Big Magic author said her new relationship is the reason why she announced her separation from José Nunes, who the character Felipe in Eat, Pray, Love in based on.

“For those of you who are doing the math here, and who are wondering if this situation is why my marriage came to an end this spring, the simple answer is yes,” Gilbert wrote.

“Please understand that I cannot say anything more about it than that. I trust you are all sensitive enough to understand how difficult this has been.”
