Tony Abbott ate another onion

JUST last week the former prime minister admitted he regretted biting into a raw onion while in the role. And yet, here we are again.

Tony Abbott chomps into a raw brown onion

DAYS after admitting biting into a raw onion was one of greatest regrets of his prime ministerial career, Tony Abbott has done it again.

According to The Examiner, the former Prime Minister once again ate an onion during a press conference in Launceston.

The Liberal backbencher’s third public display of the unusual habit took place during the launch of an anti-bullying website, the paper reports.

According to the reporter: “At the launch Mr Abbott was presented with an onion, which he quickly peeled and bit during the press conference.”

Pictures are yet to surface of the event, but really, we have no reason to doubt the report.

The incident follows Mr Abbott’s admission last week that he “probably shouldn’t” have wrapped his mouth around that brown, layered bulb in front of the cameras in 2015, which went on to become one of the most unfortunately-memorable moments of his time as PM.

Yes, we’ve been here before.
Yes, we’ve been here before.

“I probably shouldn’t have winked at Neil Mitchell. I probably shouldn’t have eaten an onion. I probably should have had walk coaching,” he said.

The backbencher was of course referring to his gait that also saw him constantly mocked, and an incident that took place during an ABC radio interview where he was seen winking at the host (who was John Faine rather than Neil Mitchell), when a sex worker called into the station while he was on-air.

Among his other regrets Mr Abbott listed not giving more consideration to a nuclear powered submarine or cracking down on politician entitlements.

Just last week, the former PM gave a candid interview where he discussed learning from his political mistakes.

Mr Abbott went on to say he had learnt some important lessons during his leadership.

“The important thing is to learn as you go through life,” he said.

“We often learn more from our failures than we do from our successes because I suppose failing is searing whereas success we just assume.”

And yet, here we are again.
