A PREGNANT woman was horrified after finding a dead lizard floating in a can of tomatoes.

Shocked Sanam Hussain — who is seven months pregnant with her second child — was making lunch when she made the grisly discovery.

While making curry for husband, Muhammad, 33, and their 15-month-old son Azaan she spotted the green, scaly reptile face down in the Euro Foods tomatoes.

Muhammad — who was alerted to the creature by his wife’s screams — said the sight of the lizard had made Sanam, 27, feel ill.

Muhammad said: “Sanam was making lunch for me and our 15-month-old son.

“We use tomatoes almost every day so when she opened the tin she spotted something odd straight away.

“When I looked at it, I thought it was a worm at first.

“When Sanam saw the lizard she just screamed and ran upstairs.

“Because she’s pregnant, I think it really made her ill.”

Muhammad had bought the can as part of a multipack from Masala Bazaar — a supermarket owned by Euro Foods — near their home in Birmingham, West Midlands.

He said: “We are really worried about food poisoning.

“The can was part of a pack of 12 and we had already eaten seven of them.

“This has really put Sanam off her food.

“I tried to hide it from her, but as soon as she saw them it made her sick.”

Euro Foods said it had contacted its Italian supplier to find out how the lizard got into the tin.

Euro Foods told the BBC, “This is a major concern. We are in touch with the family and are going to collect the offending can and have it analysed to see at what stage of the process the lizard got introduced.

“Once we have investigated, we will put in controls to stop this happening again.”
