Dear Kmart: Stop tempting my fiancee

THIS man’s hilarious letter to the discount retailer sums up the pain of too many husbands and boyfriends in Australia.

Kmart even made a guest appearance at Alex and Samantha’s wedding day.
Kmart even made a guest appearance at Alex and Samantha’s wedding day.

WHEN Alex Gadd, aka the “disgruntled fiance” of Kmart-addict Samantha, posted to the retailer’s Facebook page last year, he was simply hoping to get some stuff off his chest.

Little did he realise his rant would become used to voice the shared frustrations of mankind Australia wide.

We all know the saying “men are from Mars, women are from Venus”, but perhaps it should be “men are from Bunnings, women are from Kmart.”

I mean, ask any woman and they’ll know the trap: Kmart release a new catalogue — or they innocently wander into their nearest store — and it’s filled with “on trend” goodies that would make your home look SO much more stylish (without wearing the hefty price tag of more expensive brands).

I mean, who can say no to new curtains that will TOTALLY transform your home for just $20?!

As he puts it, Alex was “sick of coming home at least once a week to a new candle holder, frame, pot or pot stand.”

He just wants to know, WHEN WILL IT END? “I need to know how many more designs can possibly be released? A man can only take so much and I am at my limit …. (She even suggested putting a light shade in MY garage.)”

His note finishes: “I understand my relationship issues are not of your concern. Your products are simply too appealing and too cheap for her to resist and as a result it’s putting immense strain on my life. Thanks for listening.”

It’s now been one year since Alex made his post, and we’ve checked in to see if his relationship with Samantha has survived the Kmart-induced strain.

“Samantha and I are now happily married (since mid-November last year) it would take a lot more than that to destroy our relationship,” he tells Kidspot.

“The spending has certainly slowed down. The occasional item here and there pops up but I wouldn’t complain with that … at the end of the day, it’s her money!”
