TikTok user’s hilarious reaction when eating Vegemite with a spoon
A TikTok video of a British man eating loads of different Aussie foods with his mum has left many in disbelief over the way he eats Vegemite.
Aussies will tell you that when it comes Vegemite it’s all in the way you eat the thick, dark, bitter spread they have learned to love.
Otherwise it could result in sudden reflux, followed by bizarre facial reactions, as one British man has discovered.
In a series of hilarious videos, TikTok user Ryan Coates and his mother can be seen eating various Aussie snacks, but it was the way he chose to consume the classic spread that left many of his Aussie followers in disbelief.

While showing off his near-perfect Aussie accent, the video begins with the funny pair trying Dunkaroos biscuits — and before they even finished, the verdict was clear.
“Not keen,” his mother said, while Coates was a bit more direct — “s**t chocolate.”
Next up were Red Skins and Fantales and without hesitation, the lollies were an instant hit with Coates giving a thumbs up as a sign of approval.
“Now time for some Vegemite,” he said with anticipation.
“Every Australian bangs on about this.”

From the moment he squeezed some onto a teaspoon, his facial expression changed from happy to disgust in less than 0.5 seconds.
“Pffff,” he said while repeatedly shaking his head.
Unfortunately, the video cuts off before viewers could get his final thoughts, but given the sour look on his face, it’s safe to say he wasn’t impressed.
Many have come to the defence of the spread often hated by foreigners, asking the Brit to give it another go the “proper way”.
“Vegemite straight off a spoon. I love vegemite and still wouldn’t do that. Put A LITTLE bit on some toast with butter,” one woman advised.
“Nooo why would you put vegemite on a spoon!!!” another shocked follower wrote before she too said “spread a really really thin amount on buttered toast”.
“Then you will like it. Good for a hangover too,” she added.
“Why oh why?? please try the vegemite again on toast with butter and a thin layer of vegemite,” another demanded.

Coates was sent a Down Under Box of the various goods by one of his Australia followers — Lisa — who too became distressed after seeing him spoon the spread.
“Haha oh nooo, I should’ve added Vegemite instructions!” she joked. “Very thinly spread on toast, lots of butter.”
Others said “Aussies don’t eat Vegemite like that” before repeating the ratio of “loads of butter” and a “small amount of Vegemite”.
It appears the influx of Vegemite feedback may have worked with Coates agreeing that he “MITE have to try that next time”.
The young Brit has amassed a TikTok following of more than 71,000 through his cheeky videos that feature his mother.
