‘This is madness’: Radio host slams new ‘trans and gender diverse’ change-room signs
A Melbourne radio host has hit out at new signs placed outside the male and female change rooms at the city’s Oakleigh Recreation Centre.
Melbourne radio host Tom Elliott has hit out at new “trans and gender diverse” signs placed outside the male and female change rooms at the city’s Oakleigh Recreation Centre, describing the move as “madness.”
The 3AW star was alerted to the signage by 14-year-old Sam, who said he was concerned about the changes.
“There are very good reasons why we have separate male and female change-rooms, men and women, boys and girls are different from each other,” Elliott said on his radio program.
For young Sam, the updated signs have sparked genuine unease, particularly for his female peers.
“It just makes me sad that girls my age have to struggle with this, that they now have to worry about getting changed in front of literal men, they are men,” Sam told Elliott.
The changes at the recreation centre appear to be part of a broader push towards inclusivity, but the shift has attracted criticism from those fundamentally opposed to tweaking societal gender norms.
Elliott’s comments reflect the growing debate around gender identity, safety, and the balance between inclusivity and privacy in public spaces.
Oakleigh Recreation Centre has yet to respond to the issue publicly.
