Talented journalist’s death sends shockwaves through local community
The shock death of the beloved journalist has sent shockwaves through her local community.
Tributes are pouring for a revered journalist as her local community mourns the beloved woman’s sudden death.
Cairns Post announced the death of senior reporter Bronwyn Farr, who died aged 59 on August 11.
She was known in her community as a passionate reporter, who had worked at the News Corp-owned newspaper for four years after a long career which began in 1987.
Cairns Post editor Tyla Harrington described the journalist as efficient and accurate, and developed a network of contacts and trust within the city.
“She was a talented writer and her ability to file fast and accurately was second to none,” Cairns Post editor Tyla Harrington said.
“Bronwyn was a much-loved member of our team and her loss is profoundly felt in our newsroom and across far north Queensland.”
At the start of her career, Ms Farr began as a reporter in Queensland’s northwest before moving to Sydney with Australian Associated Press (AAP) in 1992.
Throughout her nine years at AAP, Ms Farr had multiple roles, and spent time reporting on general and international news.
She was an advocate for regional communities and covered major court cases. She also spent time as a thoroughbred and breeding reporter.
Ms Farr remained in Sydney to work in the horseracing industry before she returned to journalism in 2010 to work for The Land.
She spent time working in marketing and public relations before joining the Cairns Post as a senior reporter in 2020.
“Few could understand complicated reporting like Bronwyn,” Ms Harrington said.
“She could dissect 100-page reports within minutes and have the story filed within the hour.”
Ms Farr leaves behind daughter Victoria and a 15-month-old granddaughter.
Victoria told the Cairns Post her mother was a “brilliant mastermind”.
Ms Farr was remembered at a funeral on Friday in Cairns.
