Wife fools husband with Aldi grocery hack
A woman has revealed the trick she’s hidden from her husband for eight years to save money at Aldi – but not everyone is impressed.
Anyone who shops at Aldi will know one of the reasons it’s so cheap is its in-house brands.
The German supermarket shuns most well-known brands in favour of its own version sold at a cheaper price.
But what do you do when you’ve got a fussy eater who insists on only having a certain, more expensive, brand? Well, you can take inspiration from this woman in the US.
In a now-viral TikTok posted last week, the woman revealed one of the “little tricks” she used to save money on her family’s grocery bill.
“So my husband claims that he only eats Hellman’s mayonnaise and he will not settle for the off brand,” she said.
“But little does he know he’s been eating Aldi mayonnaise for the last eight years. I will occasionally buy a Hellman’s one in case he checks the expiration date.”
In a follow-up video the woman filmed her husband watching the confessional video, joking in the caption: “OK you guys I told him. I’m currently awaiting divorce papers.”
Her video attracted thousands of comments from other women who praised her genius and said they too did something similar.
“Girl he won’t check the expiration date, fantastic idea,” one commented.
“I did this when my husband REFUSED to stop drinking bottled water. I kept refilling them with Brita,” another wrote.
But bizarrely the mum was also criticised for saving money with the sneaky mayo trick, with people claiming she was “gaslighting him about mayo” and it was “toxic” behaviour.
“Why are you tricking him?” one wrote.
“Like … why? You rather do the transfer work than spend $0.56,” another commented.
In response she changed her TikTok handle to the @mayoswindler and called on people to send her money so “my man can get what he deserves”.
“Apparently I am a lying, deceitful, cheating wife because I buy off brand mayonnaise,” she deadpanned in one video.
“All of you lovely TikTokers can send me a few bucks so my man can get what he deserves, because apparently it’s not me and it’s not Aldi.
“With that being said, save my marriage please there are so many people out there that are so concerned with my finances and apparently I did my husband real dirty so now it’s your chance to step up.”
In another clip @mayoswindler responded to someone who had left a nasty comment about her appearance, revealing her joking offer to have people pay her for Hellman’s mayonnaise had paid off – literally.
“Make fun of me all you want, I’m still the genius that is pulling in mayo money,” she retorted, sharing screenshots of the transactions people had made into her account.
