Woman’s ‘bizarre’ act while being arrested for murdering her bf
A 40-year-old who allegedly killed her boyfriend did something unexpected as she was placed under arrest by police, court docs show.
A woman accused of stabbing her boyfriend to death did a “bizarre” thing when police arrested her, a US court has heard.
Chicago woman Whitney Wilcox, 40, reportedly asked her Google device to “serenade” her while she danced in handcuffs during her arrest nearly a year after his death.
Wilcox was rearrested on December 2 for murdering her boyfriend, Jeremy Rodgers, 46, in February, according to The Chicago Sun-Times.
Wilcox was initially held by police around the time of his death but was later released without charges.
However, new DNA evidence has since emerged, allowing prosecutors to now charge her with first-degree murder, according to the publication.
As the accused killer awaited police questioning last week, she “ordered her Google device to play several songs and danced while handcuffed in the living room,” court records obtained by the outlet state.
At 2:20am on February 26, Wilcox and Mr Rodgers were arguing inside their apartment.
During the dispute, Wilcox called emergency services and reported that her boyfriend had been stabbed, but she claimed she didn’t know who was responsible.
When police arrived at the home, they found Mr Rodgers bleeding out on the bathroom floor of the couple’s apartment while Wilcox was reportedly “distressed but otherwise clean and free from blood”.
She then allegedly told officers she had stabbed Mr Rodgers in “self-defence” as they were arguing.
But before he succumbed to his injuries, Mr Rodgers allegedly told paramedics and hospital staff that Wilcox had stabbed him.
He died from his injuries the next day and his death was ruled a homicide.
Prosecutors at the time stated that she stabbed Mr Rodgers in self-defence, and as a result, she was released.
But when investigators recovered a large bloody knife in the kitchen from the apartment, it was tested and found to have Wilcox’s DNA on the handle and Rodgers’ blood on the blade – leading to new charges.
Wilcox is now being held without bail pending trial and her next court appearance is scheduled for December 24.
